About

Jashia Pinkney, CNM, MS, is a millennial board-certified nurse midwife.

She provides the full scope of care throughout the lifespan, providing annual exams, contraception, and guiding birthing people through pregnancy. In her practice, Jashia works to empower her patients to care for their bodies, to believe that they are powerful, and to give them the confidence that they can birth beautiful babies.

Her clinical interests include teen pregnancy, postpartum care, maternal and racial disparities, centering pregnancy programs, and midwifery advocacy.

Jashia received her Bachelor of Science in nursing, with a minor in public health, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She then worked in various women’s health specialties, including postpartum and NICU, for four years before earning a Master of Science in nursing from the Nurse Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program at Georgetown University. She completed her fellowship in certified nurse midwifery with George Washington University Hospital before joining MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She is active in community outreach and is currently the Director of Marketing & Outreach for the DC American College of Nurse Midwives Foundation.

As a certified birth coach Jashia is passionate about empowering women, helping them grow and develop, and helping them to discover and use their inner power. She is the CEO of She Births From Within, an organization that provides birth and personal coaching, holistic wellness, and childbirth education. She is co-host of the podcast Birth-ish, a space for African American women to amplify their voices, share their birth stories, and learn from and support one another. She is also an author of 30 Lessons of Love, a Compelling 30 Day Devotional Reminding Women to Love Themselves, Pursue Peace and Find Clarity in Life.

She believes everyone already has what they need on the inside to be successful, and life is all about living from the inside out. Her motto is “Everything you have to win is already within.” Her organization focuses on providing childbirth education and birth coaching to mothers to feel empowered. She also provides personal growth coaching for women with a desire to increase their confidence, find their voice and embrace their authentic selves.

Her organization creates an environment where women can build relationships, feel supported, and vent about issues or concerns. She realizes many women have anxiety and fear related to birth and are intimidated to ask questions. She is aware that many black women do not feel heard or listened to. She understands that it feels good to talk to other people with whom you can relate. Therefore, she had a vision to create a safe place for women to be heard, empowered, and educated.

“Jashia is passionate about working with women to help them increase their confidence, find their voice, and embrace their authentic self. Women’s health is not just a job for her, it’s her life.”

When she is not catching babies or advocating for women, she enjoys journaling, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
